How does ELD Integrations & Freight Visibility work together?
In the trucking industry, ELD stands for Electronic Logging Device. It is a device that is used for recording a driver and shipment’s Record of Duty Status(RoDS). What this does is replace the need for outdated operations such as paper logbooks that are currently used by some drivers and shipment companies. With ELDs they can automate RoDS’s and not only take the hassle out of manual recording for the drivers, they also make the process overall more efficient by eliminating any chance of personal error.
In regards to freight visibility, ELD integration works by automating driver check-ins and Hours of Service (HoS) logs. This means that you can set the intervals for driver check-ins, and also manually run a real-time check if you need to-the-second data. This technology allows you to better manage your supply chain by increasing visibility throughout the entire process.
In the case of our app, Freight Vision, the driver’s mobile smart device will work together with your ELD. Our app uses the devices GPS to track the shipment, providing you with not only the location but also ETA of delivery and much more. By using the driver’s smartphone or tablet, you remove any additional hardware costs and make it much easier for the drivers.
ELD integration is essentially what allows freight visibility to occur. By having electronic logging devices we can gather real-time data from drivers and shipments that can then be used by 3PLs, brokers, carriers and shipment industry companies to help streamline their processes and increase profit margins across the board. With the ELD mandate just a few months away, the freight industry will take a large step forward in freight management technology.
