How does real-time load tracking solutions work?

Our Freight Vision app and our other fleet tracking solutions provide freight tracking in real-time. This means that you are getting your information on a by-the-second basis with constant updates.  This makes it incredibly useful for businesses in the transportation industry to help manage their supply chain distribution and keep track of all of their shipments.

But a common question is, how does it all work?

To understand this, it helps to break the system down into smaller parts, instead of looking at the system as a whole. First, we can look into how individual trucks are monitored. This is done most typically through a GPS-capable smart device that is connected with our tracking platform. From there, we use a Real-Time Location System (RTLS),  that constantly detects the geolocation of the device. From there, the device provides data that is uploaded into our system and fed through to the end user for tracking.

In order to ensure a full, uninterrupted stream of tracking data from the RTLS, we use a cloud based solution that the device can always be connected to.

The data is then downloaded in real time to the management interface. From here, the freight manager can pull up on-demand location, shipment ETA, auto alerts in the case of delays or unplanned stops, simple periodic status updates and much more. This part is all done through our user interface, which is intuitive and easy to use.

The overall shipment tracking can be easy to understand, as you are “simply” keeping an eye on a physical device that is connected online, but how do we go about estimating an arrival time based on the device location? Our software uses a predictive algorithm that factors in location, time of day, distance to destination, average speed, driving conditions and more to help it give you an accurate estimation for when the shipments will arrive. This algorithm is also updated in real-time, so as different events unfold and your driver has to switch their route for whatever reason, you’ll receive a new ETA immediately.

Real-time freight management systems can help shipping brokers, shippers, carriers and expeditors with fleet management, internal and external coordination, business automation, and overall business management. If you’d like more information on how our tracking software works, and how it can help with your business, please give us a call.
